Canadian Tire is one of Canada Games park proud venue sponsors. Specifically, the organization is the naming sponsor of the four court gymnasium and reception desk inside of the Walker Sports and Abilities Centre
The Triangle Gymnasium is sponsored by Canadian Tire Bank (CTB), the financial arm of Canadian Tire Corporation (CTC), and is named after the bank’s Triangle Credit Cards. Each of the four courts in the gymnasium have been individually named after CTC’s various retail banners and charitable organization: Canadian Tire, SportChek, Mark’s, and Jumpstart.
The Triangle Gymnasium is located on the main level, and features glass walls for ideal viewing. The court also features the largest sprung floor (a surface that absorbs shocks, giving it a softer feel) in the country, and has the capability to host wrestling, basketball, volleyball, ball hockey, badminton, combat sports and para-sports.
CTB began in 1961 as a small financial service company offering third-party credit processing for local retailers. Over the next two decades they provided support in the form of credit-processing facilities for the expanding, nation-wide network of Canadian Tire stores. Concentrating their efforts on Canadian Tire during this period enabled CTB to rapidly develop the skills needed for high-speed, high-volume transaction processing. Subsequently they changed the name, first to Canadian Tire Acceptance Limited and then to Canadian Tire Financial Services Limited (CTFSL).
In 1995, CTFSL became the first non-deposit taking, financial institution worldwide to launch a Mastercard called the Options Mastercard. Today, the Mastercard portfolio has four million cardmembers.
CTB was established in 2003 and it acquired the MasterCard Portfolio from CTFSL. In 2014, Canadian Tire updated its loyalty program allowing members and Options Mastercard cardholders to collect electronic Canadian Tire Money (CT Money®) under the My Canadian Tire Money program. In the Spring of 2018, Canadian Tire changed the name of its loyalty program to Triangle Rewards™. As a result, CTB currently issues the Triangle Mastercard, Triangle World Mastercard and Triangle World Elite Mastercard in addition to its Gas Advantage® Mastercard and Cash Advantage® Mastercard. It currently employs more than 1,600 people, with offices in Welland, St. Catharines, and Oakville, Ontario.
